CourseKata Version 7.0 Release Notes

CourseKata is pleased to announce the release of Version 7.0 of its textbooks. A major update in this version is the transition from Learnosity assessments to our new assessment delivery system. While there are no major structural changes (e.g., no large-scale reordering of chapters), this version reflects a broad set of refinements across the curriculum. These updates are based on feedback from instructors and students, as well as insights from our ongoing research and development process. Thank you for all the input!

Textbook Improvements

Across many chapters, we made updates to:

• Clarify explanations of statistical concepts and modeling ideas
• Improve alignment between explanations, questions, and coding prompts
• Refine activity prompts to better support student reasoning
• Improve how datasets are introduced, described, and used in examples
• Increase consistency in R code, terminology, and formatting across chapters

These updates are intended to strengthen conceptual coherence and create a more seamless connection between statistical reasoning and data analysis practice.

Additional Improvements

• Transitioned all assessments to our new assessment delivery system
• Improved formatting and organization for readability across chapters
• Removed minor inconsistencies and redundancies
• Strengthened internal infrastructure to support ongoing development and quality control

Student Surveys

No content changes were made to the student surveys. There are a few survey items that were previously optional (e.g., self-describing ethnicity) which are now mandatory, but students can just respond "NA". This is noted in each of the questions that have this issue.

Teaching Resources

Teaching resources are updated on a regular basis. No changes have been made specific to this release version.
